What I learned about CSS

As I said earlier, I have learned that CSS makes your web pages pretty basically, or that's how I would sum it up. It changes the font, the background image, and color, the color of the text- it obviously does even more than this, but this is how I remember it when I think of CSS.

This is useful to an organization because a code can be used across different platforms, and devices. This makes it easier for development and maintenance of the site, lowering cost, and being able to apply resources else where.

What I learned about html

I have learned that html is the simple coding part when it comes to making your web page. CSS is basically what makes it pretty and colorful. In my com class we have also worked with html and it is very simplistic, compared to CSS. Html is very plain Jane, and basic, while CSS is used to help apply color and change more specific things.  Html is used mostly to do things like size and position of things. For example the size of charts and bars and things that you want have on your site. I thought initially they were the same thing, but now I know that is not true.

About me

In the recent year I had my mind set on being a finance and econ major, but last year I decided that it wasn't for me. Finance is so dry, that I couldn't handle it. The reason I was going with the two of them was that I love numbers, well mostly math, an analysis. That is why I went with the econ and finance. I figured why get one degree when I could get two. Last year I was in a 400 level finance class and I just couldn't handle it, I hated sitting in class, and I realized it was something that just was clearly not for me. Sitting at a desk all day is absolutely something that I could not handle. I knew that I wanted to stick with economics, because it's something that I am honestly in love with, but I didn't feel that getting just an econ degree would make me very marketable when I graduated.

From here I decided to explore my other business options as to what I could doubt major with. I knew if finance wasn't for me, accounting wasn't going to be my answer. I really liked SCM, but I still needed to take my intro to marketing class. During this time I feel in love with marketing. I always looked at marketing as basically being a salesman, and I was not really about all of that. I have obviously changed my view points on that. Sales can be an aspect of it, but there is so much more. When I took the upper level classes, I saw how marketing and economics crossed over. Some people don't see this, but it does a significant amount actually. You can see this when it comes to market research. This is my favorite aspect of marketing. I love econ because it's a lot of math, but also applied analysis. With marketing research the same concepts apply. During the fall semester I had an internship with Dr. Pinto doing research, and I really enjoyed it.

I currently have an internship at Make-A-Wish in downtown Erie. I like it, but the position I'm in and what I do from day to day is not something that I want to do every day. I think that I want to work with a non-profit, but I also want to be with people, and working with them. I like interaction with people, I can't sit at a desk all day. I talked to Dr.Bicen before and she said that I should maybe look into the field of a consulting firm. She said that I would be using my marketing, but that there is also a lot of analysis behind it. I like the field that I have choose, but I guess I'm not sure where I want to go from here when I graduate. I don't know what kind of job exactly that I can go into that will be satisfying my needs. I am working toward getting my social media certificate, and have a semester left in the fall to finish up my classes. From there hopefully I can find something more to my interest.

PhotoShop tool

The tool that I decided to look up was the pen tool. I don't think that we have used it yet in this class, but I am also in a communication class that I am also using photoshop in, and recently we have been using and learning about this tool a lot. It can be a tricky tool when you have to use the alt and shift, but once you get the hang of it, it can be very beneficial. I have used it in my class to cut out objects out of all shapes; but it can be very useful when you want to use the least amount lines- it is very accurate. When cutting around edges and corners it can be useful because you can easily contour the line to be angled around tight edges.

The above website and youtube video does a great job of explaining how to use the pen tool best.

The above picture is one that I made in class where I used the pen tool to cut out the duck and put it behind the tub.

Logo

I want to make a personal logo that includes my initials, and maybe some sort of  Penn State paw, or incorporate their logo if possible. But I think before you said that a lot of time you can't use a logo because they have rights to it. I'm not sure if the colors have to correlate with the colors of our eportfolio, if so I don't know what colors would be appropriate to go with the light pink or purple that I have decided on. I want to try to make something that stands out. If I can't do something that incorporates Penn State, then I will look maybe into some type of flower, or a unique font and put my initials together!

Primary Target Audience

I am debating a couple of colors for my e portfolio, in the adobe site in class I saved a temple of them that I liked but I can't really decide. The template that I used are Easter kind of colors, pink, yellow, purple ... But I'm not sure which one to pick. I like the pink and purple better, but I'm not sure what color don't to contrast with. I think that white won't work, and will be hard to see, but I don't know how black will work either.

As for target audience I want to try and target non profit, and show off my econ and market skills. I want to be able to show that I am mathematically inclined with the research I have done with teachers, and with the classes and papers I have wrote, but also show my marketing background as well. I want to show my work for make -a- wish. I want to make sure that I show I am diverse, and also show that I am getting my social media certificate.
